'The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.' 2 Peter 3:9
Advent is a season when we look forward to the promise of Jesus’ return. And God’s ‘patience’ gives the opportunity for as many men, women and children as possible to enter the kingdom before that glorious and hope-filled day.
A short video message from John Dunnett explains how this Advent message inspires an urgent approach to mission in everything we do, and how your support can make a difference.

Ventures bookings open!
All of next year’s Venture holidays are now open for bookings at www.ventures.org.uk. Dozens of different holidays around England and Wales are taking place in 2014 at school sites and activity centres, as well as some on the nation’s waterways and under canvas!
Whatever the location, every Venture gives children and teenagers the opportunity to make friends, have fun and discover the good news of Jesus for themselves. Please invite your friends, families and any young people connected to your church.
Growing Through a Vacancy has now been on sale for two months, and has proved to be a great success with both churches and dioceses. Over 2,000 brief guides and 700 handbooks have been snapped up so far.
James Lawrence said: 'It's fantastic the resource has proved so popular, it's clearly meeting a need, and our prayer is that the churches which are using it will thrive and grow rather than shrink when their vicar moves on. All churches go through periods of vacancy, and all churches want to grow, so its universal appeal is unsurprising!'
Prices for Growing Through a Vacancy start at 20p for the brief guide and £1 for the handbook, depending on the quantity purchased. To find out more, watch an introductory video and buy online, please visit www.grow-vacancy.org.uk.
Venture leader named as Volunteer of the Year
Carol Stewart, a Venture leader since 1986 and church youth worker for more than 40 years, was given the Volunteer of the Year award at the annual Christian Youth Work Awards last month.
Ventures and Falcon Camps principal Tim Friend, who attended the ceremony, said: ‘Carol’s dedication to exploring the Bible with young people over such a long period of time makes her an ideal winner of this national award.'
Following last month’s conclusion to the 12th CPAS Arrow Leadership Programme, we’ve received some great encouragements from the participants’ feedback:
‘The combination of a remarkably loving community, some excellent Bible teaching and great wisdom from some very experienced leaders enabled me to find a fresh intimacy with God and to learn skills and habits that have transformed my ministry and leaves me looking forward to many decades of it.’ - Henry Curran, vicar in Nottingham
Looking ahead, applications have just closed for the next Arrow programme (starting in early 2014), so please pray for those on the discernment panel to have diligence, insight and wisdom as they read through the submissions. Read more Arrow stories.
