cpas - growing leaders, growing churches

Welcome ...

This month, we've got updates on some of the ways we're equipping churches for mission: locally, through the Arrow Leadership Programme and Ventures and Falcon Camps; nationally, through our role at General Synod and the EPCC clergy register; and internationally, through Willow Creek's 'Lead and Learn' blog.

If you'd like to hear more about our ministry, the CPAS Prayer Diary and Catalyst magazine are available free of charge, as well as regular updates from Ventures and Falcon Camps. To subscribe, or read the current edition online, please see the 'Downloads' section at the bottom of this email. Thank you for your support.

Once upon a Venture ...

'I had some of the best times of my life!' - David, 17
'I made loads of new friends' - Luke, 14
'I said "Yes" to Jesus' - Shannon, 13

Sharing stories of fun, faith and friendship is a fantastic way to inspire young people to come on a Venture holiday. We'd love you to help us spread the word, so that even more 8-18s can hear the life-changing story of Jesus' life, death and resurrection.

'Share your story' is the theme of the latest Ventures Update, which is packed full of ideas for promoting Ventures.

You can also request the free Ventures brochure and DVD online or by calling 01926 458456.

John, EGGS and General Synod

Last month's General Synod may have generated a lot of media coverage, but one important development from a CPAS perspective was John Dunnett's appointment as chair of the Evangelical Group of the General Synod (EGGS).

EGGS promotes the witness of evangelicals in the life, policy and work of Synod and has about 100 members. You'll be aware of the substantial issues facing Synod – women and the episcopacy, human sexuality and the Anglican Communion – so please pray for John as he chairs this important group.

Looking for a move?

CPAS offers a free service to all evangelical clergy looking for a new post.

The Evangelical Patronage Consultative Council (EPCC) register is a list administrated by CPAS containing details of evangelical clergy looking for a move which is used by patrons, dioceses and churches seeking to fill vacancies.

For more information on how to join the EPCC register, please visit the EPCC section of our website, or call our patronage team on 01926 458446.

New Arrow programme begins

This month, we welcome 24 younger leaders on to the twelfth Arrow Leadership Programme.

Becky Jones, curate at Coventry Cathedral, is looking forward to seeing her leadership grow and develop through the programme:

'My prayer is that Arrow will have a deep impact on my missional leadership for many years to come, giving me strong foundations, helping me grow in confidence and equipping me to do the work God is calling me to now and in the future.'

Arrow is an 18-month transformational leadership programme for Christian leaders aged 25-40, which aims to develop leaders who are led more by, lead more like and lead more to Jesus.

Blogging and speaking

James Lawrence, CPAS leadership principal, has written a series of guest blog posts for Willow Creek on 'The state of evangelism in the Church'.

You can read part 1 (reasons to rejoice), part 2 (confidence in evangelism) and part 3 (myths about evangelism), with two more instalments still to be published.

In a busy month for James, he was also involved in the OneLife 'Receive Power' conference, where he was part of a panel discussing leadership issues.

Diocesan mentor training scheme

Following on from the recent launch of Mentoring Matters, we are now exploring with several dioceses the possibility of partnerships to help set up mentor schemes for clergy.

This is an exciting new development which meets the increasing need for mentors amongst those who are in various forms of licensed roles.
