We're delighted to announce that
Tim Friend has been appointed to the new role of Ventures and Falcon Camps principal, and will join CPAS next month following more than five years working for Southwell and Nottingham diocese.
Tim said: 'My heart is to reach more young people who are not engaged with the gospel. Ventures and Falcon Camps have the key ingredients to make a difference in young people's lives.'
'Moving, lively, brilliant!' are the words patronage secretary John Fisher uses to describe the Leading Edge - Moving On day in Cheshire last month.
Fourteen clergy attended the forum, from curates looking for their first incumbency, to vicars who have been in post for over a decade and are considering a move. John said:
'As well as the practicalities for making applications, reading parish profiles and interviewing well, we discussed calling and vocation, which the participants really valued. Praying around the ordinal was particularly powerful. When applying for a new post, it's vital that we focus on the spiritual as well as practical aspects.
It was great to hear participants commenting that they feel much more prepared for finding their next post.'
Later this month, CPAS director of ministry Graham Archer will lead an evening event in Hertfordshire to help church leaders turn vision into reality.
Research tells us that 60-70% of vision statements are never put into action. So, how can a church turn vision into action and make change happen? Any leaders in churches, including PCC members, are invited to join Graham at Christ Church Ware on 26 June to find out more.
and we're looking forward to thousands of children and teenagers taking part in our Ventures and Falcon Camps. Remember, it's not too late to invite the young people you know to come on a Venture this year! In the run up to summer, here's how
you can help:
Volunteer - Several holidays are still in need of leaders and especially cooks. Email email@example.com or phone 0300 123 0780 (option 2) to find out more.
Pray - If you're not already a Prayer Diary subscriber and you'd like to receive our Ventures and Falcon Camps summer prayer poster, reply to this email and let us know your name and address.
Give - Many young people need bursaries in order to go on Ventures, and Falcon Camps are heavily subsidised to enable children and teenagers to attend. Give to this year's Ventures appeal or Falcon appeal.
Growing through a vacancy
This autumn will see the launch of a new resource to help churches thrive and grow during a vacancy. Two thirds of churches experience modest or severe decline during the time between vicars, so this resource will give churches 15 practical steps to help avoid the pitfalls which can lead to a drop in numbers.
The latest addition to the Grove Leadership Series is written for those who find themselves leading in demanding times. Authors Peter Shaw and Graham Shaw draw from the life and wisdom of Solomon as well as lessons from modern day leaders in order to identify eight key themes that are central to leading effectively:
Bring an attitude of humility.
Keep a wide perspective.
Deal carefully with your emotions.
Draw on your wisdom and that of others around you.
Be aware of the impact of your words and actions.
Be willing to make clear and considered decisions.
Watch out for power going to your head.
Watch out for being caught off guard.
Grove booklets cost £3.95 each, and can be bought from the CPAS shop.
