Tim’s summer report

Tim Friend, who joined CPAS in the new role of Ventures and Falcon Camps principal earlier this summer, reports back on his travels across England and Wales during the past few weeks.

As well as rock-climbing and losing water fights, Tim enjoyed meeting many children and young people who discovered Christ and grew in their faith on camps this summer.

Leading well across the generations

In what ways do generations differ from one another? Why is this a challenge for leaders? How can we mobilise the leadership potential of younger adults?

Leading well across the generations is a new event which is taking place for the first time on 2 October at St Mary's Sale, Cheshire, one of our CPAS training centres.

The day is aimed at anyone involved in local church leadership who would like to learn more about how to lead well with those of a different generation, recognising that the era in which a leader was born affects almost every aspect of their leadership, from decision-making to time-management, communication, relationship-building, learning, authority and evaluation to name a few.

Find out more.

James Lawrence's book, Engaging Gen Y (Grove Leadership Series), is available for £3.95 from the CPAS shop.

lifecall - Nicola

Associate vicar, CPAS partner and mum of three Nicola Moy sensed God's call to church leadership at a young age. She shares her own journey to ordination, and her hopes for the CPAS lifecall young vocations day she will be speaking at next month, run in partnership with Coventry diocese.

'My own path to ordination began when I was around 8-11 years old, and I was eventually ordained when I was in my twenties, so I am keen to help other younger people explore God's call on their life. It's been suggested that leaders are most effective in reaching people ten years either side of our own age group.' Apply for Arrow

Later this month, applications open for the next CPAS Arrow Leadership Programme. The deadline is 1 December, but don’t delay in starting your application or recommending it to others who may be interested.

This transformational 18-month programme is for leaders aged 25-40 who have a concern for evangelism, are willing to be challenged in their personal development and prepared to change.

Rich Johnson, vicar of All Saints Worcester and a recent Arrow graduate, said: ‘The carefully blended triple focus on leadership, evangelism and character is unique and catalysing.’

Visit for more details about the programme and how to make an application.

The Leader and the Family

Achieving a blend between work and family is a challenge for any working parent, but can be especially difficult for those experiencing the unique demands of Christian leadership.

Katharine Hill, UK director of Care for the Family, tackles this important topic in the latest addition to the Grove Leadership Series.

Other recent books in the series include 'Leading in Demanding Times', 'The Quantum Leap: From Assistant to Senior Minister', 'The Cross-Shaped Leader' and 'Engaging Gen Y'.

All books in the Grove Leadership Series cost £3.95 and are available from
