The Team Rector is based at St Mary’s Church, one of the most visited parish churches in England, in the heart of the ancient market, port and tourist town of Rye.
The Rye Team includes five other churches: in Rye Harbour and the surrounding villages of Playden, Iden, Camber and East Guldeford. All the parishes are set in a beautiful coastal and rural area at the eastern end of East Sussex, and the area includes a variety of industrial, holiday and rural communities, with some areas of deprivation.
The new Team Rector will have primary responsibility for Rye and Rye Harbour and will also have strategic leadership within the Team as a whole. This will include the opportunity to appoint assistant clergy; to develop spiritual life across the parishes, and to increase the role of the churches in their communities.
We are seeking an inspirational and prayerful priest, grounded in strong personal faith who has the energy and vision to embrace this varied and fulfilling role. We hope the new Team Rector will be an approachable presence in our communities, able to inspire growth, outreach and development, and to take advantage of the opportunities created by our many visitors and tourists.
