Priest in Charge (3.5 days per week)

Barony of Burgh

Diocese of Carlisle

We are six parishes on the lovely southern shore of the Solway and in its immediate hinterland, where we believe that there is great potential for the church to be a reinvigorated asset within our village communities.

As part of our transition from a full-time to a part-time incumbency, we are delighted that a new ministry team is being formed with two SSM Associate Priests who will share the tasks of ministry and are looking forward to working with you as you lead the benefice.

We are praying for a new Priest-in-Charge who:

  • Is central in churchmanship and theological position.
  • Understands rural ministry, or is keen to learn and to put it into practice.
  • Is willing to be visible and active in all aspects of our community life.
  • Has welcoming policies on open baptism, and on marriage, and who is inclusive in relation to diversity.
  • Is keen to work with families, children, and schools.
  • Will lead pastoral care, and its oversight.
  • Can be a leader and guide in lay ministry, supporting our aim to have a lay team in each parish.
  • Will work with interdenominational partners and be a gentle unifying force in communities and congregations.

This is a part-time stipendiary post (3.5 days per week, stipend £9,989 with housing provided, or £20,388 with housing allowance of £3,920 from April 2026).
